FormPanel obsolete?

I am reviewing the various examples for field binding, model validatiors, session and other new features. Is it safe to say that the FormPanel functionality can be implemented via other means?

I've always disliked the component since it carries a copy of the record data and requires all sorts of tedious syncing when the record is used elsewhere. I hope it can finally fade into obsolescence.
