ViewModel's and capturing errors from ajax requests

In the standard View -> ViewModel -> Model with RESTful interface for ExtJS, what is the appropriate way to capture an error retrieving data from a server?



E.g. I am using a router so that when a user goes /template/32, they get details of template #32 - but if #32 doesn't exist, how do I capture this and show an error to a user?
