how to find selected index in Select box

I was using extjs 1.x and in this version able to use view but in extjs 2.2 there is no option to use view. so I am unable to use "source.view.getSelectedIndexes()". I need to find out the selected index to pass ahead. so is there any other way to get the selected index in select box.

Now I am using source.getSubmitValue() but finding that value after selecting the value in selectbox. I just want to know the value index when I move on this.

Please do the needful. It's urgent.
